New discovery: the awesomely-colored soy wraps. |
They are just a bit hard to dig out of the package. |
But is it ever worth it. How pretty are these cones? (that's rhetorical question) |
There's next to no taste for these wraps. It was a bit like edible paper .. but a great alternative for lighter-tasting sushi. |
Second novelty: very expensive nori. This was about $5 a bag of 10 sheets .. (compared to $2 a bag) . The verdict? It's shinier. Well, it did have a fresher and stronger ocean taste. |
Third novelty: Negi-hamachi. MMM, almost as good as negitoro, which has now become a staple food in our diets. |
Y tried to make ochazuke ... but forgot the rice was sushi rice! So it ended up being vinegary porridge which wasn't good ... but unagi makes everything taste better. |
A whole unagi! |
I think this was the first time we bought hamachi, and we had to try and remove the skin with a tiny fruit knife. That took forever! |
