August 07 2011 - hot food extravaganza

asari (clam) miso soup with hanpen. tasted fine but
will remember to a bigger clam to soup ratio next time.
will also remember to get kombu next time.
i found this miso to be almost too mild/subtle.
two kinds of beef from nikuya. the right one is pre-
marinated and much cheaper. the sauce is good!
pretty similar to kalbi marinade, but with more soy.
we forgot the shrimp again!

i finally remembered to bring the remaining masago ....
but we kept forgetting to eat it.

gotta love those negi toro-saba-hama!the poke tasted better this time
but was made a bit randomly ...

in all our haste, we forgot about the
fish in the oven! it broiled for an extra
10 minutes. yvuni hasn't burned things
this much in quite a while!
but it was still melt-in-your mouth great!
i guess there's a 10 minute leeway for
this dish then! next time, less time for a
prettier miso black cod.
yvuni's super quick strawberry bread. the frosting
would have been better with the jam though.
i love side views!
yvuni's lime cup. tuna's lime cup.
they stood fine on their own this time, and the rinsing helped a lot for a less-sour taste.

we forgot the shaoxing/sake but it tasted great with the
huge amounts of garlic, ginger, and green onion.
next time, maybe more garlic less ginger?

July 23 2011 - three sushi-keteers

fresh scallops on the half- shell!
baby scallops attached on the outer shell!

the spread, round 1 :).

assorted sashimi and negi-fishes (toro/tuna/hama/saba)

kobe beef, vietnamese ham, and cod roe spaghetti

Attempted cucumber cups instead of lime cups.
It was hard to strip the skin off to make pretty stripes.
Tasted quite fresh though.
Red tuna poke. It's amazing how the same food can look so much more appetizing in a martini cup.

grilled saba (of course not the sashimi kind). yvuni followed the Ramsay tutorial and got the crispy fish skin!Way oversteamed, unfortunately, due to our insecurity about doneness. But  it was tasty  nonetheless.
