New discovery: the awesomely-colored soy wraps.
They are just a bit hard to dig out of the package.

But is it ever worth it. How pretty are these cones? (that's rhetorical question)

There's next to no taste for these wraps. It was a bit like edible paper .. but a great alternative for lighter-tasting sushi.

Second novelty: very expensive nori. This was about $5 a bag of 10 sheets .. (compared to $2 a bag) .
The verdict? It's shinier.
Well, it did have a fresher and stronger ocean taste.

Third novelty: Negi-hamachi. MMM, almost as good as negitoro, which has now become a staple food in our diets.
Y tried to make ochazuke ... but forgot the rice was sushi rice! So it ended up being vinegary porridge which wasn't good ... but unagi makes everything taste better.
A whole unagi!
I think this was the first time we bought hamachi, and we had to try and remove the skin with a tiny fruit knife.  That took forever!
